WILDLIFE
TingaTinga has a bustling wildlife. Giraffes, sebras and elephants, to name a few, can be seen wandering the open fields right outside your window.
The village is located in close proximity to Amboseli National Park. We are happy to arrange safaris for visitors both to Amboseli and to Serengeti and the Ngoro Goro crater.
VISIT THE SCHOOL
The organizations first priority was to build a free of charge English pre- and primary school for the Maasai people in TingaTinga. In Tanzania the education in all government pre- and primary schools are in Swahili. Starting middle school all classes are taught in English, resulting in a lot of children not being able to, or at least struggling to, continue their education. As the Maasai people are semi-nomadic it is important that the School is located in close proximity to their homes.
Today we have classes from pre-school to 4th grade and we continue expanding and improving to house all years up to 7th grade.
We are happy to arrange for guests to visit the school, meet our wonderfully dedicated teachers and the children.
A CULTURAL EXPERIENCE
A visit to TingaTinga is a cultural experience. We can arrange for a variety of activities to let visitors experience the wonderful Maasai culture and get insight in to the Maasai way of life.
Activities may include; meeting the Maasai people, a visit to the MDWC school, visiting a traditional Boma, a Maasai BBQ, a nature walk, safari, spear throwing competition, Maasai Dancing, Meeting the Women Group, a visit to the local church (Sundays), visiting the Maasai market (Fridays)

NATURE WALK
On a nature walk visitors will be accompanied by a local Maasai with a vast knowledge of the flora and fauna in, and surrounding, TingaTinga. You will wander the open fields between the majestic Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro.
SPEAR THROWING
Spear throwing is a traditional Maasai sport and has always been part of the Maasai culture. It is a skill necessary both for hunting and for self-protection. Once in a while they arrange spear throwing competitions and the person who throws the longest wins. We are happy to arrange spear throwing competitions where visitors will get to both watch the skilled Maasais and participate themselves.
VISIT A BOMA
Boma transelates to "enclosure". In TingaTinga it is the name of the fence of thorn bushes that encircles the living area of a Maasai-family. There are often several huts inside one Boma and the live stock is kept in an inner circle of thorn bushes at night. The fence is constructed to protect everyone inside from wild animals. A Boma houses everything from one to several families and huts. When guests visit a Boma they get real insight in to the Maasai way of life.Â
We are happy to arrange for guests to visit a Boma and to meet with a Maasai family.
MAASAI BBQ
A Maasai BBQ is a magical experience. With very few people owning TVs and Radios, the bonfire becomes a place of entertainment where people meet to tell stories and share a meal.
The Maasai diet is mainly plant based. Potatoes, rice, beans and bananas are common. Animals are only slaughtered for special occasions in TingaTinga. Meat quite a luxury so naturally a Maasai BBQ is a festive happening. We are happy to arrange for a dinner around the fire pit for our visitors.

A BBQ can also be plant based.
MAASAI DANCING
The Maasai people are known for their unique traditional dance where jewelry doubles as an instrument and the men compete in jumping the highest. The colorful fabrics, the singing and the movements create a beautiful symbiosis worth experiencing. We are happy to arrange for this for our visitors.
VISIT THE CHURCH
On Sundays we can arrange for visitors to take part in the Sunday service at the village church. The Maasai people are mainly Christian, but many aspects of the old traditional belief is mixed in with their Christian faith.
MEET THE WOMEN GROUP
The Women Group is a project we have been working on alongside the School. This is a place for women to meet and learn skills that can help them in their everyday life. We recently bought 12 sowing machines for the group and it proved quite the success. We are happy to arrange for visitors to meet the Women Group and see their beautiful handcrafted work.
